Wood wool, water and cement.

Träullit was founded in 1946 by Lennart Rääf and his father Axel Rääf in the small municipality of Ydre in the province of Östergötland, Sweden. The idea to use wood fibers in building materials was born after a relative had visited Austria where the technique of fusing wood wool with mineral bonds had been used since the early 1900s. Lennart and Axel, who worked with wood tar production and other forest products, quickly realized the ingenuity of the simple yet efficient combination of wood wool from Swedish spruce, cement, and water. Within shortly, the production was underway.

Initially, Träullit focused on producing natural wood wool-based insulation but came to expand their product portfolio to also include wood wool ceiling panels. During the first twenty years, all products were made entirely by hand, but, as the demand for wood wool products continually grew, an automatic production line was installed in 1965 — at the very same location of Träullit’s production still to this day. As the material offered a multitude of functional characteristics such as sound absorption, heat accumulation, moisture regulation, and fire protection, the decision to consistently develop new products and expand the product portfolio was simple. Today, Träullit produces a wide variety of cement-bonded wood wool products for many different constructions and purposes.

Träullit has since 1946 refined Swedish timber from a prosperous countryside to renewable wood wool. With the same care for their customers, employees, and environment, Träullit is today lead into the future by the fourth generation of Rääf.
